Geita, Tanzania
Bridging Worlds Through Music started in 2014 as a cross-cultural music project connecting students in Regent Park, Toronto, Canada with children in Geita, Tanzania. What began as unique music workshops culminating in an online real-time jam, developed into a full-time youth music education program operating in Tanzania. Led by community, the program has reached hundreds of youth, trained dozens of teachers and connected countless community members through the joy of music.
Bridging Worlds Through Music currently operates in Geita and Mwanza through the Anza Kwa Imani Foundation. Taught by local teachers, the program offers lessons in theory, keyboard, guitar, voice, ukulele, percussion and drums. Students learn music skills, but more importantly, life skills to help build their self-esteem and support them in reaching for their dreams.
Bridging Worlds Through Music joined CAP Network as an Affiliate in 2016 as part of our overall efforts to advance education for children and youth in African communities. Over the past six years, we have successfully grown the music programming from one to two communities, built instrument and music resource libraries, facilitated teacher training workshops and brought community together through practice and performance.
Our programs make music education accessible to all, creating joy and positive change for all involved.
