As a registered NGO in Tanzania, the Valenova Foundation works to help the people of Ifakara build a strong self-reliant community by creating opportunities through education, enhancing agricultural practices and developing resilience in responding to critical needs.

Since 2011 we have helped over 40 students progress from primary school to the completion of high school. We have sponsored 5 students who have graduated from University and are working in good jobs, supporting their extended families and giving back to the community. We have built a study hall which has become a cornerstone in the community. There are books, computers and desks where local volunteers help students who would not have the opportunity otherwise. We brought electricity and clean water to the villiage. We purchased a tractor to help cultivate the farmers fields and provided irrigation pumps to improve the yield on crops. We've been there helping with supplies after a significant flood.

We want to remove the barriers to a good education. Learning English as a second language is very important since secondary school and University are taught in English. Public primary schools are taught in KiSwahili, their first language, so the transition to higher education is difficult. We would like to raise funds to buy computers for the study hall so young people in Canada can donate time to video call to classes in Ifakara to speak English to the children of Ifakara. Also, some children do not have transportation to get to school. Buying bicycles for the study hall that can be lent out, gives a child in need access to school.
