Based in Ghana, Africa Climate Action Initiative (ACAI) is an initiative that works alongside African communities on the front lines of climate change. Its mission is to improve the climate change mitigation and adaptation response of African nations and their communities while building solidarity between Canadian and African communities fighting climate change.
ACAI is particularly involved in promoting renewable energy, climate-smart agriculture and environmental protection.
In order to change the mindset and promote awareness in communities about environmental protection, especially among the youth, ACAI will launch a challenge entitled "Tree A Life". This challenge invites advocates, activists, artists, the academe, politicians and citizens of ACAI member countries (i.e., Gabon, Congo, DRC, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Tanzania, Nigeria, Senegal, Mali, Benin, Togo, Cameroon, Guinea Conakry, Burkina Faso and Canada) to plant 2,000 trees for each country and simultaneously conduct awareness-raising activities. This initiative allows everyone to participate in the fight against global warming.
We encourage everyone to donate to adopt a tree (or trees) to be planted in an African community! This initiative will allow communities in Africa to plant trees to feed communities, as well as for livestock forage, conservation of soils and the environment, and for carbon sequestration. The trees planted will be fruit trees, medicinal trees, or trees that result in high carbon sequestration. You will receive a certificate to reflect your purchase and ownership of the trees you have contributed to the community.
The "Tree A Life" challenge will promote the initiatives of ACAI to collaborate on new environmental projects and increase its impact.
